Using Technology at Home

GettyImages-941785894Technology is a fast-growing, ever-changing tool present in our everyday lives. The proper use of it is no simple task, either. New tools, devices, apps, and games are constantly being introduced, so it may be hard to keep up with what children are viewing each day. Technology can be addicting and hard to separate ourselves from, so it’s no wonder children always want to use it, too! You may get conflicting messages from different sources—some telling you to abolish all technology and others telling you to not change anything you’re doing.

However, many educators have found a happy medium for the successful integration of technology in your child’s life that attacks all the obstacles today’s parents may face.

Here are some tips for successful technology use in your home:

  • Use technology to enhance learning opportunities, not replace them.
  • Make technology engagement meaningful by being with, and talking with, your child as they explore with it.
  • Find a balance between engaging, hands-on experiences and learning through technology that works for you and your child.
  • Talk with your children’s teacher for support and further ideas.
