Teacher Spotlight: Meet Charlene Hough

At The Children’s Courtyard of North Plainfield in Illinois, there is a special Lead Teacher whose passion and purpose for her career have soared to exceptional levels. We are proud to shine the spotlight on Charlene Hough, a 2025 Teacher of the Year Finalist at Learning Care Group (LCG).

Charlene’s journey in early childhood education began with a clear purpose: to positively influence a child’s earliest years. “I’ve always enjoyed the enthusiasm, curiosity, and energy that children bring. Being able to teach, nurture, and care for them while working closely with their families is incredibly rewarding,” she shares.

In her classroom, Charlene focuses on creating a joyful and enriching space where toddlers thrive. “Even though they may not remember me years from now,” she says, “I hope that during their time in my classroom, they develop patience, confidence to explore, creativity, and a love for learning with their friends.”

What keeps her motivated is the unpredictability and wonder that each day brings. “Working with children means embracing the unexpected. It never gets boring! Watching them reach developmental milestones at this age is the most exciting part.”

Charlene’s commitment and hard work have earned her the honor of being singled out as one of LCG’s top teachers. “Thank you to Learning Care Group for recognizing my dedication to the children and families I serve,” she says. “Being a Teacher of the Year Finalist is such an honor. It motivates me to continue providing high-quality care every day.”

Looking to the future, Charlene is passionate about mentoring new teachers and fostering strong family connections. “My goal is to help new teachers grow into their roles and feel confident in their classrooms. I also look forward to continuing to partner with families to help each child reach their full potential. When I retire, I hope to leave a lasting impression on the school and educators I’ve worked with.”

Charlene’s advice to others in the field is rooted in experience and heart. “Be positive, be prepared, and have a flexible schedule. Things don’t always go as planned, and that’s okay! The work is hard, but the rewards are even greater.”

We are incredibly proud of Charlene and grateful for the passion, care, and excellence she brings to her classroom and school community. Her impact is truly immeasurable. Thank you for all you do, and congratulations on being named a Teacher of the Year Finalist.

We will announce the 2025 LCG Teacher of the Year this fall. Between now and then, we will share the story of each of the four finalists who inspire all of us to make a difference. Visit our website to learn more about LCG, our community of schools, enrollment options, or teaching opportunities.
