Three years old is a time of endless curiosity and wonder, when children begin to develop intense interests. That’s why at The Children’s Courtyard child care centers our teachers get to know each child’s strengths and inclinations, so they can turn these natural interests into skills and knowledge.

Curriculum highlights include:

• Pictorial daily schedules which include both child- and teacher-initiated activities.
• Small group experiences.
• Introduction to literacy and early math skills through the Doors to Discovery Curriculum.
• Take-Home literacy components to reinforce strategies learned in the classroom.
• Thematic units with a range of learning objectives supported by High/Scope Key Developmental Indicators.
• Individual assessments and portfolio development.
• Character Education strategies which encourage self-esteem, conflict resolution and problem solving skills.

Our preschool daycare program follows a daily routine that supports an active balance of teacher and child-directed activities. The High/Scope curricular framework supports the Plan-Do-Review process for preschool children. This process helps preschool children build cognitive skills by encouraging them to think about what they want to do (PLAN), act upon their thoughts (DO) and finally reviewing with the teacher how the plan worked out (REVIEW). Preschool children explore the outdoor classroom daily, experiencing elements of the curriculum and nature.

Preschool classrooms include:

• Learning centers: library, math, science, dramatic play, sensory, manipulative play, art and construction
• Computers
• Puzzles, games, books, audio books
• Story props, puppets
• Cozy private areas
• Print rich environment (labeled shelves with pictures and words, environmental symbols, charts, graphs and the children’s names including their High/Scope Symbol)
