Research shows that children build knowledge appropriate to their development when they actively explore and interact with their environment. So our teachers and classrooms provide ample opportunities for children to learn, grow and develop their skills confidently and comfortably. In addition to the High/Scope Active Learning Framework®, we use a curriculum based on The Complete Resource for Preschool® as support for our program.
Building knowledge, building confidence
The Children’s Courtyard teachers learn a lot, too. They observe each child, and note interests and skills so that they can plan a predictable, yet flexible routine for active and quiet learning. They ascertain how each child learns, then guide and encourage along the way.
Room to explore
Teachers read to children every day. They give preschoolers many opportunities to scribble and write in journals. Pictures of diverse people and families are displayed around the room, as well as children’s names and High/Scope symbols. Shelves are labeled with pictures and words.
We want parents involved, too. So we provide daily reports, encourage communication, and provide two parent/teacher conferences per year. This way, we make sure that you can celebrate your child’s accomplishments as we do.
