Turning Interests into Skills and Knowledge

Three years old is a time of endless curiosity and wonder, when children begin to develop intense interests. That’s why The Children’s Courtyard teachers get to know each child’s strengths and inclinations, so they can turn these natural interests into skills and knowledge.

In addition to our “hands-on” High/Scope philosophy we use the Doors to Discovery Early Childhood® curriculum in the Junior Pre-K program. This forms an enriched program in all areas of development.

Curriculum highlights include:

  • Daily schedules include both child- and teacher-initiated activities.
  • Teachers read to children every day, either individually or in small groups, and engage them in rhymes, songs and finger plays.
  • The Junior Pre-K environment is print-rich, with shelves labeled with pictures, words, children’s names and High/Scope symbols.

Junior Pre-K classrooms include:

  • Learning centers: literacy, math, science, dramatic play, sensory, art and construction
  • Counting materials
  • Computers
  • Puzzles, games, books and books on tape
  • Story props

At The Children’s Courtyard we encourage parents to learn more about the quality care and education we bring to our Junior Pre-K programs. Find a school near you or request a visit to see for yourself.
