Where Children Begin to Develop a Love of Learning

Early preschool is the time when The Children’s Courtyard teachers really begin to channel the active nature of children into real excitement about learning.

Teachers become even more familiar with each child’s abilities and interests, and use that knowledge to develop an individual curriculum based on The Complete Resource for Toddlers and Twos.® Part of our High/Scope philosophy of “learning by doing,” these developmentally appropriate activities are designed to keep children interested and get them ready for kindergarten and beyond.

  • Children can study board books on their own, and teachers read to children every day either individually or in small groups.
  • Shelves are labeled in pictures to assist children in accessing and putting away materials.
  • Children’s artwork, their names, and pictures of diverse people and families are displayed throughout the room.

Teachers engage, guide and counsel children, while allowing them the freedom to explore on their own. We also make sure parents stay informed and involved, with daily reports and two parent-teacher conferences per year. Our classrooms offer a comfortable, inviting environment that makes the most of learning opportunities and self-direction.

Early Preschool classrooms are arranged to include:

  • Large open spaces for play
  • Centers with materials for hands-on play and exploration
  • Learning centers: dramatic play, sensory, science, art, manipulative exploration, construction, and literacy
  • Books, blocks, puzzles, and action and reaction toys
  • Duplicates of favorite toys to minimize frustration

At The Children’s Courtyard we encourage parents to learn more about the quality care and education we bring to our early preschool programs. Find a school near you or request a visit to see for yourself.
